A RESIDENCY PROGRAM
FROM THIS JANUARY
The Nook Residency Program
NOOK is a residency program by THIS JANUARY, a creative agency in Washington, DC. The program supports the next generation of great local creative talent by providing funding, workspace, and hands-on mentorship to an emerging artist with a connection to DC.
Chapter II: Fashion
Chapter I: Parsa Afsharjavan
Our first NOOK resident was visual artist Parsa Afsharjavan, who developed "Obscurities," a body of work comprising six sculptural pieces and one functional object. The work emerged through a process of reduction, stripping away excess materially, visually, and conceptually. Each piece sits somewhere between surface and structure, ambiguity and intention, asking to be experienced slowly rather than explained.
